I was looking for places near Cambie and found pictures of their food on yelp. Dang, the food looked so aesthetically pleasing, so I knew I had to give it a try.
I came in shortly after they opened so it was still quite empty. As I walked in I was greeted; even by the chefs.
I ordered the Unagi Donburi lunch special.
The flavours were just right to my liking. Sorta salty, sorta sweet, but it helps add some saucy taste to the rice, cucumber and egg. The miso soup was nice and warm and not overly salty, which was perfect for a cold spring day. Salads at Japanese restaurants are usually super sour, but it wasn't overpowering until you reached the bottom.
Overall, I had a very positive experience here!
Also, there's a fish at the bottom of the salad. -

I REALLY liked Uma Sushi on my first visit. It's perfect for a relaxed sushi meal, with friendly staff and fresh, tasty sushi.
I thought the aburi sushi and their interesting rolls are miles better than the gimmicky sushi doughnuts, but everything was great.
We went back another day for lunch and it wasn't quite as good. I was expecting the super-fresh fish again...but it wasn't quite on par with what we were served in the evening.
Basically, Uma sushi is fab, but it is waaay better in the evening. Still the lunch sets are great value, so if you value cheapness (more than flavors) lunch is still an A-OK option. -

This place has great sushi for a pretty low price point. It would give it a 5 for great value and quality if not for 1. It's slow as heck. 2. It doesn't have a liquor license. So it makes it a functional place that is slow. A bit of a contradiction.
Don't get the donuts those are not very good nor good value -

Really fresh food.
Can't really handle large parties.
We were bummed they didn't serve any alcohol. Or at least just japanese beers. After a long day, our crew was looking forward to Sushi and Asahi or Sapporo. -

Been here a handful amount of times. I have to say that this place has pretty good value in terms of the sushi quality and price. There foie gras is very competitive that of which is on the Vancouver market at a very reasonable price. Salmon Oshie, OG kale gomae, are all pretty good. I definately enjoy this place before I go buy groceries at whole foods across the street. Glad it's there and will be coming back for sure. Definately recommend.
